The UK care system needs attention in order to provide clarity and cohesion to a sector that is "confused".

That is the perception of an influential group of select committee MPs, who have warned that complexities in the sector are hampering its development.

In particular the committee is keen to set up a national framework uniting the different rules across the country and providing clearer guidelines.

The committee is also seeking to establish better criteria for eligibility among the elderly, with an assessment encompassing both social and health aspects needed.

At present MPs have called the system "bewildering", and "little understood".
